THE WORLD OF IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA

Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam

St. Ignatius Loyola

St. Ignatius Loyola
(1491-1556)

Welcome to the world of Ignatius of Loyola. About this extraordinary person of the 16th century, there are already many scholarly books on his life, spirituality, theology and legacy.

The purpose is to present to you as much as possible, the world that Ignatius would have seen himself, in his travels, the people, the places and spaces associated with him and how they looked at that time, recorded by paintings, sketches, or left in woodcuts and drawings that commemorate the event.

After showing his birthplace in Azpeitia in the Basque country of northern Spain, and the basilica of today, with a flashback, the viewer enters into the renaissance of l6th century Europe. You the viewer will soon become a pilgrim on the road as Ignatius was, nearly 500 years ago, finishing in Rome.

The milieu of life of St. Ignatius was divided into some distinct periods.
